Netac Patent Lawsuit Attracts Media
Eyeballs
In less than a month after Shenzhen Intermediate
People's Court ruled for first instance that Beijing
Huaqi Information and Digital Technology Co Ltd (aigo
brand holder) and Fu Kuang Hui Electronic Co., Ltd (Shenzhen),
the factory of TAI GUEN ENTERPRISE CO. LTD (TGE group)
violated Netac Technology Co Ltd's patent on USB flash
drives, the Mass Media, TVs, newspapers, websites released
tons of news, reports, features, and analysis in China's
very first Intellectual Property (IP) protection lawsuit
in Information Technology (IT).
On June 11th, hours after Netac news conference release,
CCTV, (China Central Television), China's national and
most authoritative TV, broadcasted in channel 2 that
"the trial of this case will be the model that
IP lawsuits in China should follow§ and ※will continue
its following report in this issue".
China Business Weekly, a major English Newspaper in
China, addressed the news with the title "Patent
fight heats up". Other newspapers, either local
Shenzhen newspapers or national newspapers also paid
attention to the case.
China's dominant and NASDAQ Listed websites, www.sina.com,
www.sohu.com, along with China's most influential IT
website www.pconline.com made columns to report this
issue. Profiles of both parties, history of lawsuit,
future influences, etc are covered in all possible details
and lengths. Other influential websites, including www.chinabyte.com,
www.21cn.com, www.enet.com, www.chinanews.com.cn, www.yahoo.com.cn,
www.People.com.cn etc, also reported the ruling from
different perspective. As a result, heated discussions
in IP protection is also widely carried out among Internet
surfers.
The Mass Media, will probably focus in the lawsuit again
in a few months, as Huaqi appealed the ruling to the
Guangdong Supreme People's Court, which, as said by
many legal experts, "stands little chance to turn
the ruling over".
